September 2nd Saturday ArtHop of Redding, CA - Jamie Solorio Photography

As usual, there was no disappointment in this months local 2nd Saturday ArtHop of Redding, CA.   If you have not yet gone to the ArtHop it is about time you gave it a try.  Downtown Redding has totally changed!  Chris Molitor playing on the street corner in front of the new yogurt shop Spoon Me.  People walking around all dressed up, laughing, listening, and have a great time.  Here for the Fall being heard from inside Vintner's Cellar.  I am telling you, a good time....so, go DO IT! :)

I started my evening going to Carnegies located at 1600 Oregon Street of Redding, CA.  Two of my best friends came out with me and as we walked into the dimly lit bar/restaurant we could hear two very talented musicians playing music.  My two friends headed to the bar and grabbed a tasty brew and I made my way upstairs to see Carnegies featured artist Michael Kuker.

Note: I linked his images instead of taking pictures myself.  This way you would get to see his art exactly as he created it. :)

Michael Kuker has been taking photographs for around ten years and is self taught.  I always have to hand it to anybody that has enough passion to teach themselves their craft.  Michael loves to take pictures of local landmarks, which is inspired by history.  Michael is the type of artist that goes that extra mile to get the perfect shot.  For example while trying to get a beautiful shot of some waterfalls in Dunsmuir he twisted his ankle, but was still able to get the most gorgeous shot.  If you would like to purchase some of his extraordinary work you can contact him at info@kukerphotography.com

Here are some of my favorite images:

Next on my agenda was to meet the so very exceptional artist Kara Yowell who was being featured at Viva Downtown.  Her art was very sensual and vibrant.  I loved it!  She also is a self taught artist who is very passionate about her craft.  Everything about her art to her choice of clothing, hair, and make-up had a very pin up style to it.  Kara is a mixed media artist and had so many pieces hanging it was hard for me to choose my very favorite.  Her favorite mediums to create with are watercolor pencils, acrylic and oil paints.

Note:  The lighting is dark inside the building and these pictures look even more colorful in real life.  Please contact Yara Yowell at kfieseler@hotmail.com for more information.

Last place to visit had to be Here to the Fall (click link to hear some of their music on Facebook).  One of my very favorite local bands.  Vintner's Cellar Custom Winery located at 1700 California Street had a full house with this energetic band playing.  I walked in and everybody had huge smiles, filled drinks, and people were even peering in as they walked by on the side walk wondering what all the excitement was about.

Headshot Shoot - Redding Ca Portrait Photographer Jamie Solorio

Towards the end of last week I get an email from Timm, the handsome man in the above picture, looking for some head shots.  His name was so familiar and instantly I thought," hmmm...wonder if I know him."  He works all around the world, so I thought that it was just a strange coincidence.  After a few emails, I found out that I did know him!  He was one of my best friend's little brothers from high school.  It was so fun getting to see him after all these years and see how he grew up.  It is funny how when you think of somebody from the past you still remember them the last way you saw them, in his case a child.  Now, he is 6 foot 4 inches (I think) and looks like he could easily do some damage.  So big in fact, that not ONE person downtown Redding said a word to us!  Loved that!!

365 - Not So Much

Yes, this is a strange picture!  A little dark and one that might make you take a second look. Usually, I love to take pictures that are warm and give me that nice cozy feeling inside...this is not the norm!  It is an image of my youngest hanging out by her bedroom door holding a stuffed monkey.  I took this photograph around 2:30 in the afternoon yesterday as I noticed how pretty the light was hitting the floor.  Really, I would like to do a 365 project and have tried several times...but failed!  So, I figure when I do take those random shots daily or not, might as well post them.  To see more of my images please check out my site http://www.jamiesoloriophotography.com/.

!!! I was just invited to sell some of my images of Getty Images !!!   How stoked am I?  Seriously stoked! :)

Adorable Family - Family Portrait Photographer Jamie Solorio of Redding, CA

Here are a few of my favorite shots of the most adorable family here in Redding, CA.  The family portrait session started out super easy and ended with just as much ease.  The kids were crazy well behaved and the parents were totally chill.  I have to say, I love sessions like this one!  Thanks you guys for letting me capture you.

Kaysha of Enterprise High 2011 - Senior Pictures by Jamie Solorio Photography of Redding, CA

Here is a little sneak peak of such a beautiful girl!  Her skin is perfect...I am so jealous.  Light loves her and reflects in the most amazing way.  I was doing some edits today while babysitting at my friend's house and the little girls kept coming up to me and asking who she was and that one of the little girls said she(the little girl),"wanted her face to look like that girl's!(Kaysha)".  Talk about a compliment!  You know those toddlers do not withhold the truth!  Thanks Kaysha for spending some time downtown Redding, CA for some urban like senior portraits with me.  There are so many more to come, can't wait to finish editing them.
