Messing around with my new Nikon

So, I will have to say the most important thing to do after you get that fancy camera in your hot little hands is to READ THE MANUAL! It is amazing how much you will learn. I also was fortunate enough to attend a beginners DSLR class at Crown Camera of Redding, CA. This was very helpful.
So, I have manage to get a few pictures taken and here are a couple of them... that is if I can figure out how to upload them to this site. The first image is of bolts from a railroad. The right side of the picture has some major blown highlights, I should of cropped it off in Photoshop Elements. Oh well! If I had been checking my histogram that is offered in my camera, I would of seen this error. I did quite a bit of reading on the histogram after going out the other day, and learned that it is quite key to shooting a well balance photo, as far shadows, mid tones, and highlights. Plus, if you are shooting in the middle of the day like I was, you might not be able to see the LCD so well, but the histogram would be easier to see. More later on the subject...
