I Heart Faces challenge this week was From a Distance.  The idea was to take a portrait style picture from a distance and roll with it.  This is one of my favorites from a session a little while back.

Ashley and James's Engagement Session - Engagement Photographer Redding, CA



I just have to start off by saying that these two are so stinking adorable!  The love between them is so obvious and powerful.  It is always nice to see a young couple so in love and excited to spend their lives together.   Thank you Ashley and James for letting me take your engagement pictures, you guys were so fun and easy to capture.  To see more of their images you can click HERE.

As far as weather goes, I typically like to shoot with much more light.  However, today  was very overcast and that was something somewhat new for me to experiment with.  There are great things about overcast days, one being there are no harsh shadows or blinding highlight blow outs.  I could take a picture anywhere I wanted and didn't have to worry too much about exposure on Ashley and James.  The only thing that I am not a huge fan of with cloudy days like today would be the lack of sun flare in my images and dramatic back lighting.  Next time I do an overcast shoot, I am thinking of popping on my polarizing filter to see if I can get the colors to pop more also.  These images are considerably lighter than the images I see in photoshop, but when they print they will have more of a color pop.  I still am working on finding a good photoshop recipe for saving for the web without a loss of color saturation.

Thank you guys so very much for letting me build my portfolio and getting to work with such a sweet family!  I loved meeting your family and look forward to another photo shoot one day.  It was fun to try something new at the Monolith here in Redding, California.  Also, thank you so much for the gift cards and crazy nice things you have written me about my photography...seriously made my day!

If anybody who happens upon this little blog of mine is interested in a FREE session with me, please email me at jamiesolorio@hotmail.com.  As a thank you for letting me practice and build my portfolio I am offering 5 full resolution edited images on a disc for you to print. Then around 20 edited web sized proofs for you to share via email, facebook, or however you like on the Internet.  Out of those 20 edited images, if you see any that you would like to have printed, I will be able to do so via a professional lab service for a discounted rate.  I am in the mist of creating a price sheet for prints currently, but will soon hopefully have them posted under my "sessions" tab at the top of the blog.  I am selling the prints at a discounted price at the time so that I can become familiar with the different professional labs and learn the print side of the photography business.

Favorites from the Anderson, CA Family Portrait Session - 2nd Saturday Art Hop of Redding, CA

Okay, here are a few of my pictures from the Anderson shoot!  Thanks again Lisa for letting me practice on you and your kids.  These I think were my favorites, besides the others that I have already posted.  Also, thank you SO much Lisa for the AppleBee's gift card...that was so very nice of you! 

On a different note...I am super excited to say that I am going to be the "Official Blogger" for the 2nd Saturday Art Hop for Redding, Ca.  I will give more details later, but I think this sounds like a ton of fun.  I will get to meet different artists and blog about their talent, plus practice my photography!!!!  I think it is a win win situation!

Boring....

Boring...that is what my husband says about my blog! :)  He thinks I should start posting a shot a day again, and I have to say that I do agree with him...this time.  So, starting tonight I am going to try and post a photograph each and every day.  Maybe I should post this great shot my sister took of my cutie pie husband with his shorts rolled up to his mid-thighs on the beach.  Pretty hot!  :) 

A shot a day is a great idea for several reasons:

1. blogs are more interesting if update on a regular basis
2. it is crazy good for me to practice, practice, practice
3. makes my hubby happy
4. why not
5. hopefully my friend Lisa will join me
6. hmmm, having a hard time finding really astounding reasons of why!

This photo of me was taken by my very beautiful, talented, and crazy sister Erin.  This weekend my family and hers went to the coast for a day and had an absolute blast.  She was having fun playing around with my camera and this is one of the many images she took that I liked.  Thanks Erin!!!

Photographer in the making in Redding, California...

Okay, I am shocked by how many of my friends like my photography, that or they are good liars!!!!  Anyhow, I am doing it for free for experience, but am getting pretty busy with shoots and editing.  So, I am going to have to limit the number of sessions each week to just one. So, it is a win win situation...I get  you to model for me and you get some nice shots together. Yeah!  Super exciting for me!!!

Later this week I am going to add some more info to my blog via the blog buttons under my header.  I am thinking of doing a "What to Expect from a Photography Session from Jamie Solorio" type of thing.  There I will list ideas of what to wear, how long the session takes, how long before you get your CD or prints, locations, and whatever else pops into my head.

And if I get a little more time, I want to research another topic on Natural Lighting in Photography. 

Northern California Mother Son Photo Shoot....
